Just reflected today with my team how very much it is true that business and relationships building and network creation is more than anything
the LONG game.
We have worked hard for years with a handful of clients that now just keep coming back. With more. And more. It suddenly creates a flow that I am super grateful for, and it could be interpreted to be ‘luck’ or ‘sudden’ – but it’s actually not, isn’t it?
It’s simply… that building trust takes time. I always seconded the idea that sales etc. is
much less about hunting mode but much more about gardening.
Tending to a garden, being there when it (your client) needs you and leaving it alone when it’s doing its own thing.
For example, in my first company, krysalis consult, at some point, I used a growing sunflower as a visual analogy. I realized that this was not hitting the spot – what I actually meant was growing trees, a garden, maybe a park or even a whole landscape.
If you want to grow trees… you will have to give it time, that’s what I say.
You might then be surprised at some point that – oh, how big and strong they have become!
Yes, you can have flowers and show off with them… but they will be gone next week.
What are you growing – flowers or a tree?
Who else here is in it for the long game?
Humble legacy building?

The trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit.
